Last week I wrote about the entertaining and interactive presentation I attended that featured Robert Franek of Princeton Review. His main message to students and parents is that the college admissions process can go from painful to pleasurable if you approach it as savvy shoppers.
One tradition in Springville is the Pageant of Bands, now reaching its 50th birthday, and the town is planning a big blowout to make it as exciting as possible.

OK, for all of you who who have been waiting in anticipation for my next review (all eight of you), you probably know I love comics. So when “The Avengers” was opening, I just had to do this review. Now, excuse me if I gush enthusiasm throughout this review, but it was so very good I can’t help myself.
The buildup was big, but boy, did he deliver. Robert Franek, senior vice president/publisher at Princeton Review and author of “The Best 376 Colleges” and “The Best Value Colleges,” was recently a guest speaker at Myers Park High School in Charlotte, N.C. (Full disclosure: I sit on the Princeton Review National College Counselor Advisory Board.)
The Rise Records Freshman Class Tour rolled into Broadway Joe’s on May 2, showcasing the record label’s young, yet full-of-potential bands. Opening the tour was Buffalo’s own Saints and Madmen.
